Is the Topps card builder coming back?

We don’t know, and we have found nothing from Topps that says. Topps’ card builder address (topps.com/pages/cardbuilder-temporarily-suspended) still appears in search results under the title “Topps Custom Cards - Temporarily Suspended”, and we found no Topps announcement that the builder has returned. The page itself answered our visit with a bot check, so we could not read its current text (checked October 16, 2026). We have no inside knowledge of Topps’ plans, and we will not guess at a date.

If you came here to make a card of your kid, you do not have to wait for an answer. Several independent printers, including RookieSzn, will print a card from your own photo today. The comparison below lists them with prices read from their own sites.

What we could and could not confirm

  • Confirmed on our check: the builder’s web address is still indexed under a “Temporarily Suspended” title, and no return announcement turned up.
  • Not confirmed: the current wording of Topps’ own page or support answers. Topps’ site showed us a bot check, and we do not get around those.
  • Not confirmed: when the builder first launched, what it cost, or the year it stopped. Forum threads mention dates, but we have not found a Topps statement to back any of them, so this page does not repeat them.

If Topps publishes anything new, this page will change to match it. The date at the top tells you when we last looked.

What people used it for

Read the public threads and the builder was used for a handful of things: a card of a kid’s youth baseball or travel-ball season, a card of a pet, joke cards for a wedding party or a retirement, and a Father’s Day or grandparent gift. A separate group used it as collectors, wanting a card that looked like the year’s real Topps release.

RookieSzn covers the gift and keepsake uses. It does not cover the collector one, and the next section says so plainly.

Who RookieSzn is for, and who it is not for

A good fit if you want

  • one card of one athlete from a phone photo, with no minimum order (one card is a complete order);
  • the background removed automatically so the player is cut out cleanly, or the original photo kept as it is;
  • to see the finished front and back before paying, free and without an account;
  • the HD file of the card as well as the printed card, so you can text it to family.

A poor fit if you want

  • a card that reproduces a Topps design, border or logo. We do not copy any Topps design.
  • a sealed pack, or a stack of 25 or more cards to hand out. Our maximum is 10 copies of one card per order.
  • a graded card. Nothing we make is graded by anyone.
  • a full statistics table on the back. The back carries their name, number, team and season and one line you write.

If you are a collector chasing the look of a licensed release, we are honestly not your answer, and some of the options below are closer to what you want.

What you get

One printed card is $24.99 plus $6.95 shipping, and the HD file of the card is included. The price is the same whether the photo is easy or hard.

Alternatives compared

Prices below were read from each company’s own site and carry the date we checked. Anything a company says about itself is its claim; we have not tested any competitor’s card, so we make no comparison of print quality or speed.

Ways to get a custom card from your own photo
OptionWhat we found
RookieSznOne two-sided 2.5 x 3.5 in card for $24.99 plus $6.95 shipping, HD file included, no minimum. Extra copies $7.50 each, up to 10. HD file only $9.99.
SnapshotSnapshot says its custom cards start at $17.99 for a single card, with $5.00 flat US shipping on orders under $30 (checked October 16, 2026)
Nations Photo LabNations Photo Lab sells 2.5 x 3.5 in trader cards in packs of 12, listed at $8.25, with an optional glossy UV coating at $2.50 a pack (checked October 16, 2026)
MpixMpix sells trader cards in sets of 12 from its own sport templates; its Baseball Burst design listed 12 cards at $7.99 (checked October 16, 2026)
Commercial printersNextDayFlyers says trading card orders start at 25 pieces; 25 full-color two-sided 2.5 x 3.5 in cards on its 14 pt. gloss stock were priced at $27.36 before shipping at its slowest production speed (checked October 16, 2026)
Topps card builderNot available to order from on our check. See the status section above.

Two of these are cheaper per card than we are. Snapshot’s single card costs less than ours, and a photo lab will print a dozen cards from its own template for less than one of ours. If the lowest price is what matters most, those are the better buys. A photo lab’s pack is a different product from a one-off card laid out around your photo, and a commercial printer expects you to bring finished artwork.

How to make one

Three steps, and you can stop after the second without paying anything.

  1. Pick a look. Choose from Powder Burst, Storm, Supernova, Voltage, Aftershock and Prism. Powder Burst in Ice Blue is where this link starts, and you can switch at any time.
  2. Upload a photo and preview it free. The background comes off automatically. If you prefer the photo as shot, keep the original. No account and no card details.
  3. Add the details and decide. Type their name, number, team and season, plus one line for the back. Order the printed card for $24.99, add copies at $7.50 each, or take just the HD file for $9.99.

The shine is printed foil-style artwork, not physical foil or holographic material.

Questions people ask

Does Topps still make custom cards?

Not that we could find. RookieSzn is an independent alternative that prints one custom card from your photo for $24.99, with no minimum order.

When will Topps custom cards be available again?

We have not found any announced date. We have no inside knowledge of Topps’ plans; if Topps announces a return, this page will say so.

What can I use instead of the Topps card builder?

Independent printers that work from your own photo. RookieSzn prints one two-sided 2.5 x 3.5 in card for $24.99 plus $6.95 shipping, with the HD file included. Snapshot and the photo labs in the table above cost less per card; check their pages for what each includes.

Is there a Topps custom card template I can download?

Not from us. RookieSzn does not provide, copy or sell Topps designs or templates. Our cards use our own original looks, and you can build and preview one free before deciding.

Can I put my kid’s stats on the back?

Not as a stats table. The back of a RookieSzn card shows their name, number, team and season, plus one line you write, up to 80 characters. That line can hold one real stat or a memory.
